Project Replicate Ross

Calling all dog lovers! For those of us who have ever had a furry friend, we know how they can lift our spirits, calm our frustrations and make us feel loved. For the children at Trillium, this is exactly what our therapy dogs accomplish.

Whitney Vail, PsyD is training Guide Dog puppy Ross, who doubles as a therapy dog at the Parry Center. Through his training, Ross learns to be calm and well behaved in all situations, a trait perfect for a therapeutic residential setting.

Ross is the Parry Center's first therapy dog, and has quickly become a celebrity on campus. He is frequently called upon to help calm children when they are sad, anxious, angry, and even aggressive. Ross's mere presence is often enough to help the kids feel better. He cuddles with them, goes for walks, romps through the field, and even serves as a basketball or soccer spectator. Many clients have commented that Ross makes them feel better; they are always excited to see him! Smiles abound in his presence and frequently laughter can be heard throughout as Ross tickles kids with kisses. Ross has a special sense for young people in need of his love-he doesn't ask questions, judge, or make demands. He simply listens and loves unconditionally.

Since Ross is only one dog, we thought it would be great for the kids to have a stuffed animal version of Ross while they live on campus and when they leave our care. Project Replicate Ross will allow these young people to have their confidant, cuddle partner and best friend by their side at all times.

If you would like to donate a Black Lab stuffed animal, please drop it off or mail to: 3415 SE Powell Blvd. Portland, OR 97202.
